About Us

The Weather Awareness Resource Network was created on February 24, 1999. Millions of people all over the world are in harms way each and every day because they just don't know what to do when severe weather or a disaster hits their community. Each year we see it on local news stations, read it in the newspaper or have heard it on radio. People losing their lives during thunderstorms being hit by lightning, people drowning because they drive their cars into flooded roadways, lives lost during tornadoes because people are not prepared, hurricanes claiming lives as people venture out when the calm of the eye is over them, heat related deaths, frostbite and I can go on and on.

Mission Statement

"The Weather Awareness Resource Network has been created to inform the general public on the dangers associated with severe weather, to bring the public to a heightened level of awareness so that one day we can all coexist with the forces of mother nature while minimizing the loss of life and property due to the efforts of everyone working as a team."

It is now time to put an end to people losing their lives needlessly just because they are not properly informed. Yes, the local media informs us all, but do people know what to do when watches and warnings go into effect? Do people really understand what can happen to them or their property when severe weather hits? The answer in most cases is NO. Go ahead and do a survey in your area. You may be shocked by what you find. You may be saying to yourself, I know there is a need to get people more informed but what can I do being just one person. The answer is PLENTY! As we gain popularity and the word spreads about what we are trying to achieve, even more people will get involved. We will all be one massive united team working together, attempting to achieve our goals which are, to save peoples lives and property! The more people who get involved the faster we can all get the word out. So, as you can see you are a VERY important part of the "bigger" picture in order to achieve the above mentioned goals.

We CAN and WILL make a difference but not alone! Let's work together and assemble the largest team of volunteers ever and stop the unnecessary loss of life and property right here and now. All you need to have is the desire to want to make a difference in your community. We will achieve our goals by distributing materials which are supplied to us by (F.E.M.A.) Federal Emergency Management Agency, The American Red Cross and various insurance companies all at no charge to you! You don't even need to know anything about weather because the brochures will explain everything for you! Imagine this. One day as you are handing out your brochures, someone comes up to you and says, "you know, you gave me some information a few weeks back and when the severe weather hit we were really prepared and it saved my life! I just wanted to thank you" Can you think of anything else that you can do that is so rewarding? I sure can't! Even if we save just one persons life or property isn't that well worth our time and efforts? You bet it is!

The time is now to make the decision to become involved and make a difference in your community starting today!. Tell everyone you know and spread the word to as many people as possible about W.A.R.N. Young or old it makes no difference as everyone is welcome to take part! As the old saying goes, " An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". W.A.R.N. is here to stay and always will be as long as there is a person who's life or property may be in danger because of lack of knowledge. It will be because of people like you why we will be such a huge success, and it will all be because you cared enough and wanted to make a difference.

We would like to thank The Federal Emergency Management Agency and The Red Cross for supplying the brochures and posters that are available to W.A.R.N. members for distribution in our Members Only Area and for making this possible.
